WriterDeck OS
exploring writing on custom os that only does writing. NOTHING ELSE. no destractions.
review of

biggest gripes:
- its super OLD feeling.
- no mouse support.
- no select.
- no google drive support
I wish it could just be a version of vscode. :/

- installing is more manual
- weird requirment for non ETCHER or rufus . weird.
the install process
go to here
download the "pc" version
download the imageUSB software and point it at the .bin file example "microjournal.PC.2025.11.bin"
https://github.com/unkyulee/micro-journal-linux/blob/main/debian-live.md

unplug usb. power off your pc and reboot with the usb plugged in.
Its very similar. but differs in the approach.
learning curve for sure.
Update:
It's kinda awesome.
I really love the solution for dragging final text docs to the computer it has a simple script that makes a "filebrowser" service that you open on your computer with 192.168.1.Xxx:8080
Very nice.
I feel like having a tutorial would be helpful.
Only issue I've found so far is if you remove it without running the safe remove script
The PC it's running on won't be able to shut off without a hard power down.
Which. Just. Feels. WRONG.
otherwise it just feels like a stripped down debian install with some thoughtful scripts and minimal tools
I had a exiting vim moment.
ALT-G to show hints
CTRL-q Is how you exit the editor.
This is designed more for making daily notes which I like. And are stored in the
Micojournal/documents/
With a YYYY-MM-DD.TXT format very good ๐
Only issue I wish I had the ability to select multiple characters. Learning curve there
But for just writing prose I'm good
One big thing it needs to get boring for me to start writing.
I don't want to get excited about other buttons and stuff.
TODO:
make a os that runs a slimmed down version of vscode. called Monaco Editor
- adds google drive backup.
- simple file system
- support for usb plugin and drag
- button for SYNC to backup
